Circle Foundation Teams Up with UN to Streamline Aid Delivery via Stablecoins
The Circle Foundation has announced two new grants to support the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Food Program (WFP) in their efforts to modernize international aid delivery using regulated stablecoins.
The grants, valued at $2 million, will fund the establishment of UNDP's Digital Asset Innovation Pool and WFP's internal governance framework for digital asset distribution. The UNDP pool aims to support country offices in implementing full-scale program delivery using regulated stablecoins, building on previous trials managed by the Alternative Finance Lab.
WFP plans to test stablecoin payment corridors across two to three countries over the next three years, connecting international aid funds directly to local financial service providers and market merchants. This will also involve independent research to establish benchmarks for stablecoin speed, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
