Circle Gives Developers 95-Day Deadline to Migrate from Legacy Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol
Circle has given developers 95 days to migrate to its new Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) V2 before shutting down legacy contracts on December 1. The company will start reducing burn limits on October 31, which determines how much USDC can be destroyed on a source chain to be minted on a destination chain.
The transition requires substantial code changes as CCTP V2 uses different contract addresses, interfaces, and APIs incompatible with the previous version. Integrators must update their references to TokenMessenger, MessageTransmitter, and TokenMinter, modify calls to depositForBurn, and replace legacy attestation calls with the /v2/messages/{sourceDomainId} flow.
Aptos, Noble, and Sui rely exclusively on the V1 network and will be left without a native route once the contracts are closed. Circle has guaranteed sufficient minting capacity to complete in-progress attestations before the definitive closure of V1.
