Circle has introduced a new service called Circle Match, which allows eligible institutions to collect rebates funded by other institutions cashing out of USDC. The service pairs mint and redemption orders in hourly, prefunded auctions, with redeemers paying fees that are capped at the Express rate. These fees then go to matched minters as spendable USDC.
The service is available to institutional Circle Mint customers, though approval is required and availability varies by jurisdiction. Institutions converting USDC back into dollars can control the maximum fee they will accept, while those turning dollars into USDC set a minimum rebate. The clearing fee on a matched redemption cannot exceed the customer's stated maximum or Circle's Express rate.
Participants must prefund their orders, with redeemers depositing USDC and mint-side customers wiring dollars into a separate Match balance. Unmatched amounts follow the customer's selected Fallback, Roll, or Cancel setting. Circle emphasizes that dollar payouts remain subject to U.S. banking hours, and delays caused by these constraints are not considered settlement failures.
The auction mechanism is separate from the recent removal of redemption surcharges. Circle Match aims to provide institutions with more control over fees and rebates, though matching and fee savings are not guaranteed.
