Circle Stock Drops on Q2 Revenue Miss but Analysts See 40% Upside
Circle Internet Group's (CRCL) stock dropped by over 2% following its Q2 revenue report, which came in at $701 million, below the estimated $712 million. The revenue miss combined with lower reserve yields and higher spending led to a decline in investor confidence.
Despite this, Circle's adjusted earnings per share of $0.18 matched analyst forecasts, while adjusted EBITDA of $143 million exceeded TD Cowen's estimate by 10%. In response, TD Cowen analyst Bryan Bergin raised his price target on CRCL to $87 from $82 and maintained a Buy rating.
Bergin highlighted several key areas of focus for investors, including the U.S. crypto CLARITY Act, rising competition, future business models, and USDC circulation trends. He acknowledged that while Circle's dominant position in stablecoins is recognized, doubts remain about how the company can convert this into meaningful long-term revenue growth.
The stock's performance is taking place against a challenging backdrop for crypto-related stocks, with Strategy (MSTR) down 47% over three months and Coinbase (COIN), Circle's main USDC distribution partner, off 28% in the same period. However, Wall Street analysts remain optimistic about CRCL's prospects, giving it a Moderate Buy consensus rating with an average price target of $98.53, implying over 40% upside.
