Circle Stock Set to Move as Washington Events Loom
Circle Internet Group (CRCL) enters a pivotal week in which two Washington events will take place, each influencing its reserve income. The Senate is set to vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act on Tuesday, while the Federal Reserve's rate decision is scheduled for Wednesday.
The CLARITY Act aims to provide regulatory clarity for digital asset markets, but its passage remains uncertain. If it fails, sponsors will have to reintroduce the legislation after the midterms and push the market structure framework to 2027.
Circle makes most of its revenue from interest on its reserve income, which accounted for nearly $668 million of its $701 million in second-quarter revenue. The company's business is sensitive to the Fed's policy, with each quarter-point rate increase generating about $2.5 million more per year for every $1 billion of reserves.
The upcoming Federal Reserve rate decision is a significant catalyst for Circle's stock, as a rate hike could impact customer behavior and reserve levels. If customers cash out of USDC, Circle may be left with a smaller pile of reserves at a lower interest rate.
