Circle Unveils Arc Mainnet: A Blockchain Built for Financial Markets
Circle Internet Financial has launched Arc Mainnet, an open Layer 1 blockchain designed for financial markets and real-time money movement. This marks a significant milestone for Circle, with over 100 institutional and ecosystem builders already live on or exploring Arc's private mainnet ahead of its public launch.
Arc is built to meet the needs of specific markets and use cases, particularly stablecoin and payment use cases at scale. The blockchain features six design choices that set it apart from other networks, including gas in dollars, sub-second finality, opt-in privacy, issuer and interoperability, agentic economic activity, and institutional security.
Circle has secured a founding validator cohort drawn from the institutions that run global finance, including BlackRock, The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), Galaxy, ICE, Mastercard, MoneyGram, SBI Group, Standard Chartered, Sumitomo Corporation, Visa, and Worldpay (now Global Payments). This partnership will help secure Arc and provide a public blockchain that meets institutional needs.
Judging by its features and the backing of prominent institutions, Circle's Arc Mainnet seems poised to accelerate adoption of digital asset use cases. However, only time will tell how successful this new network will be in meeting the expectations of its creators and users.
