Circle's Arc Mainnet Launches, Bringing Institutional-Scale Payment Capabilities
Circle's Arc Mainnet Goes Live, Bringing Institutional-Scale Payment Capabilities
The launch of Circle's Arc mainnet marks a significant milestone in the development of blockchain technology for financial markets and real-time payments. On September 16, 2026, Circle invited some of the most powerful names in traditional finance to validate the network, including BlackRock, Visa, Mastercard, DTCC, and Standard Chartered.
Arc is a purpose-built blockchain designed to handle dollar-denominated payments at institutional scale. The network offers sub-second deterministic finality and is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing developers to port existing smart contract code without rebuilding from scratch.
Circle's Chief Product and Technology Officer, Nikhil Chandhok, has been making a case that stablecoins are not crypto assets dressed up as money, but rather money itself. With regulatory frameworks catching up, the GENIUS Act provides issuers like Circle with the legal scaffolding to make this claim credibly.
The Arc network currently operates under a permissioned validation model, with a planned transition to Proof-of-Stake architecture in 2027. The launch ecosystem is robust, with Aave V4, Morpho, and Uniswap live on the network from day one. Tokenized funds including BlackRock's BUIDL and USYC are also present.
