Circle's Arc mainnet went live on Wednesday with over 100 institutional and ecosystem partners joining on day one. The founding validators include major financial institutions like BlackRock, DTCC, ICE, Mastercard, Visa, Standard Chartered, and SBI Group.

The launch marks a significant milestone for Circle, which has minted 10 billion ARC tokens this week. However, the company emphasized that this is not a commitment to publicly launch ARC, but rather a technical step towards a possible transition from proof of authority to proof of stake in 2027.

Arc is a Layer 1 blockchain built for payments, trading, and 'agentic economic activity.' USDC, Circle's stablecoin with around $74 billion in circulation, has been wired into the new chain as its gas token. The Arc mainnet supports optional post-quantum signatures, with broader protections in development.
