Circle's EURC Hits €400 Million in Circulation, Solidifies Euro Stablecoin Presence
Circle's euro stablecoin EURC has reached a major milestone in its four-year history. As of August, its circulation has surpassed €400 million, more than 10 times the amount it had during the early days of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) two years ago.
According to Circle's senior director for EU strategy and policy, Patrick Hansen, EURC has grown rapidly, reaching 50% of the euro stablecoin market share. It is also the largest euro stablecoin by a significant margin, ranking among the top 25 stablecoins.
The growth of EURC can be attributed to its wide listing on various blockchains and traditional payment networks. Visa and Mastercard are expanding their stablecoin payment functions to include EURC, while payment company Thunes has added a pre-funding function for EURC on Ethereum, Solana, Base, and Stellar.
On-chain data shows that non-dollar stablecoins, particularly euro-based ones, have seen significant growth. By February 2026, transaction volumes in local-currency stablecoins had risen to $1.2 billion, with euro-based stablecoins accounting for over 80% of market capitalization and 85% of total transaction volume.
