Circle's x402 Facilitator Service Takes Payment Efficiency to the Next Level
Circle has made it easier for API providers and AI agents to get paid in USDC through its x402 Facilitator Service, which is now live on Arc, Base, and Polygon PoS networks.
The service uses the exact scheme for processing payments across the three supported networks, allowing sellers to receive payments without setting up their own relayer infrastructure or funding gas wallets. Circle's Facilitator Service handles the messy middle part, verifying the buyer's signed EIP-3009 authorization and settling the transaction on-chain.
The service is built on top of the x402 protocol, which embeds USDC payments directly into HTTP request-response flows. This means that AI agents can now transact autonomously without requiring a credit card or bank account.
Circle launched its Agent Stack in May 2026, and the early data shows that 98.8% of volume in agent-to-agent x402 payments used USDC.
