Citi Bolsters Stablecoin Payments via Expanded Coinbase Partnership

Share

Citi has expanded its partnership with Coinbase to support stablecoin payments for corporate clients. This move is an extension of their initial collaboration in October, which focused on fiat-to-crypto payment infrastructure.

The new development allows customers to accept and hold fiat while automatically converting incoming funds into stablecoins through Coinbase's Virtual Accounts powered by Citi's Virtual Account Wallet.

Citi's institutional clients will also be able to accept stablecoin payments via its Spring by Citi platform. Coinbase will handle the stablecoin payment rails, automatically converting digital assets into fiat for settlement.

The initiatives are launching first in the U.S., aiming to provide businesses with bank-account-like functionality while enabling stablecoin payments without requiring merchants to directly hold or manage digital assets.
