Citi Pumps Up Crypto Bets Amid Debts and Deregulation
Citi's analysts have revised their predictions for Bitcoin and Ether, citing three key factors that are boosting the crypto market. The debasement trade, where investors seek safe-havens from inflation, is one of these drivers. Regulatory developments in Washington, including softened SEC rulemaking, also play a significant role. Finally, ETF flows continue to have a major impact on prices, with Citi estimating that $1 billion in Bitcoin ETF inflows can move the price by 3.5%.
The firm has raised its 12-month target for Bitcoin from $82,000 to $113,000 and Ether from $2,240 to $3,028. However, analysts note that these predictions are not solely based on one catalyst, but rather the convergence of multiple factors. They also warn that policy support is still fragile and may falter if one of the three engines driving the market starts to sputter.
The report highlights a crucial distinction between Bitcoin and Ether, with the former leaning on its store-of-value and portfolio-adoption story, while the latter remains sensitive to actual network activity and its programmable-money use case. As the crypto market continues to evolve, Citi's analysts emphasize the importance of staying vigilant and adaptable in response to changing regulatory and macroeconomic conditions.
