Citigroup and Coinbase Team Up for Institutional Stablecoin Payments

Share

Citigroup and Coinbase have partnered to create an infrastructure for institutional clients to use stablecoins as a payment method.

The collaboration has two key components. First, Coinbase will integrate Citi's Virtual Account Wallet solution to enable its clients with bank-account-like functionality, automatically converting incoming fiat currency into stablecoins.

The second component is the integration of Coinbase Payments into Citi's Spring by Citi payment acceptance platform, allowing merchants to accept stablecoin payments and have them automatically converted into fiat currency at the point of sale.

Citigroup's Shamir Kharik stated that the goal is 'to give clients more choice in how they receive and send funds as payment methods and forms of money evolve.'

The partnership aims to build a next-generation payments infrastructure, enabling seamless interoperability between traditional and digital-era payment methods.
