Citigroup Bolsters Stablecoin Push with Expanded Coinbase Tie-Up
Citigroup has expanded its partnership with Coinbase to deepen its involvement in stablecoin-based payments. The collaboration builds on their October 2025 agreement and links COIN's digital-asset infrastructure with C's virtual-account, payment, and fiat-settlement capabilities.
The expanded tie-up will allow customers to accept, hold, and pay funds through Citigroup Services' Virtual Account Wallet while automatically converting incoming fiat into stablecoins. C will also enable institutional clients to accept stablecoin payments through Spring by Citi, with Coinbase Payments converting the payments into fiat.
This structure allows merchants to accept stablecoin payments without directly holding or managing digital assets and could help them reach more than 150 million stablecoin holders globally. The expanded Coinbase relationship adds to C's broader digital-payments infrastructure and growing reach across payment channels.
