CLARITY Act Blockage Triggers $571M Market Reversal
Crypto markets took a sharp hit after the U.S. Senate blocked the CLARITY Act from advancing, resulting in $571 million in long-position liquidations over the past 24 hours.
The legislation had been expected to establish a federal framework for digital assets and clarify the roles of the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Bitcoin and ether traders bore the brunt of the losses, with $190 million in long positions liquidated in each. XRP longs lost about $30 million, while Solana longs lost approximately $22 million.
The failure of the bill does not eliminate the possibility of regulatory action, as the SEC and CFTC can still pursue rules under their existing authority.
