Clarity Act Faces Uncertain Future as Senate Deadline Looms
The U.S. Senate's effort to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (Clarity Act), a landmark crypto market structure bill, appears unlikely to meet its early-August deadline for consideration.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune stated that while he hopes to begin Senate consideration of the legislation before lawmakers leave for the summer recess, there is no guarantee it will move quickly. 'I would like to at least get Clarity started,' Thune said, adding that the Senate still needs to determine whether enough votes exist to advance the measure.
Industry advocates and lawmakers had targeted August 7 as a crucial deadline to keep the crypto bill on track. Missing this milestone could significantly reduce the likelihood of final passage next year, especially with the November midterm elections approaching and Congress facing a packed legislative agenda.
