CLARITY Act Failure: Armstrong Distances Himself from WSJ Blame
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has distanced himself from claims that he was responsible for the failure of the CLARITY Act, a crucial crypto legislation. The bill failed to clear a procedural vote in the Senate due to lack of support from both Democrats and some Republicans.
According to the WSJ, Armstrong opposed an earlier draft of the bill citing issues with DeFi, tokenization, CFTC authority, and stablecoin rewards. Armstrong stated that he was 'proud' of his opposition as it led to a 'better bill.'
The final version of the bill had a stablecoin yield compromise, which Armstrong supported. However, some industry insiders blamed Trump's $1.4B crypto profits for the ethics stand-off and the bill's failure.
