CLARITY Act Failure Boosts Crypto Markets Amid Regulatory Uncertainty
Crypto markets rallied after the failure of the US CLARITY Act in the Senate. The bill, which aimed to provide legal certainty for the industry, ultimately included compromises that could have restricted crypto companies. Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan believes this could be beneficial for companies like Coinbase and Kraken.
Hougan notes that the final version of the bill would have restricted platforms from paying customers interest or rewards on stablecoin balances, which could have negatively impacted Coinbase's user acquisition strategy. Without the bill, existing rules remain in place, allowing these companies to continue offering stablecoin rewards.
The SEC has also allowed certain tokenized US stocks to trade through blockchain-based systems under temporary rules. Hougan sees this as an opportunity for tokenization companies to test their technology in real markets sooner.
