CLARITY Act Failure Sends Cryptocurrency Market into a Tailspin
The failure of the CLARITY Act to pass in the Senate has sent shockwaves through the cryptocurrency market, causing Bitcoin prices and related stocks to plummet. The bill, which aimed to establish a regulatory framework for digital assets, fell short of the required 60-vote threshold by just one vote.
Bitcoin prices dropped over 3% to $75,792.30, while Coinbase Global Inc. (COIN) stock fell more than 10%, and BitMine Immersion Technologies Inc. (BMNR) stock slumped over 8%. Other affected stocks included Robinhood Markets Inc. (HOOD), Strategy (MSTR), and Strive Inc. (ASST), which all declined by at least 5%.
Patrick Witt, the Executive Director of the President's Council of Advisors for Digital Assets at the White House, called the vote 'a major disappointment' and 'a failure of American leadership.'
