Clarity Act Falters as Senate Agenda Falls Short
The Clarity Act, also known as the Transparency Act, has been met with excitement from cryptocurrency enthusiasts in the US. However, its fate is uncertain as it has not been included in the Senate's agenda for August.
According to reports, the Senate will be heading into a month-long recess in August, and the Clarity Act was not listed on their voting schedule announced on August 3rd. This reduces the chances of the bill being brought to the floor before the recess, which is scheduled for August 10th.
The bill requires at least 60 votes to pass in the Senate, and even with Republican support, it still needs the backing of at least seven Democratic senators. Some Democratic senators have expressed concerns about the publicly released draft, stating that it lacks adequate consumer protection, ethical guidelines, and conflict-of-interest regulations for the crypto sector.
Experts predict that if the law is not passed in August, it may be delayed until September or even 2027 due to the November congressional elections. The bill's fate remains uncertain as senators try to secure necessary support before the recess.
