Uniswap Decentralized Exchange Protocol Evolves Through Several Versions
Uniswap is an open-source decentralized exchange protocol that uses automated market makers to execute trades onchain without a central intermediary. The Uniswap protocol is built primarily for Ethereum and other compatible networks, allowing users to create markets, swap tokens, and provide liquidity.
The protocol was created by Hayden Adams in 2018 and has since evolved through several versions, including Uniswap v3 and v4. Each version introduces new features such as concentrated liquidity and programmable pools.
Uniswap's automated market maker mechanics use the constant product formula to price assets algorithmically, rather than matching individual orders. This means that when a trade changes the reserve ratio, the pool's quoted price changes automatically.
