Clarity Act Gains Bipartisan Momentum Despite Banking Lobbyist Concerns

Share

According to Faryar Shirzad, Coinbase's Chief Policy Officer, the Clarity Act is an 'extraordinarily bipartisan' piece of legislation that has reached a critical stage in its development. Speaking on Fox Business, Shirzad expressed optimism about the bill's chances, stating it could be voted on as early as next week.

The Clarity Act aims to set clear regulations for the crypto industry, but lawmakers have been at an impasse due to concerns from banking lobbyists. They argue that if crypto exchanges offer attractive yields to customers, banks could lose their deposit base. However, Shirzad dismissed these concerns, pointing out that major banks like JP Morgan and Bank of America are already adopting blockchain technology.

Shirzad's comments come after a new draft of the bill circulated last week, which includes provisions banning officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto. While some Democrats have expressed dissatisfaction with the current form of the bill, Shirzad remains confident that it will pass.
