CLARITY Act Hits Roadblock Amid Senate Disagreements
The CLARITY Act stalled in the Senate due to disagreements over several provisions. The bill aimed to establish a federal framework for digital asset markets and clarify responsibilities between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong pushed back against reports that he would blame himself and his company for the bill's failure. He rejected the narrative, stating that The Wall Street Journal was unfairly portraying their role in the setback.
Armstrong had previously opposed an earlier draft of the CLARITY Act due to concerns over decentralized finance rules, tokenization provisions, CFTC authority, and stablecoin rewards. However, these issues were later addressed through negotiations, and he supported the revised Senate draft.
