CLARITY Act Hits Roadblock as US Senate Vote Falls Short
The US Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act on Tuesday after a cloture vote fell short of the required 60 votes, recording 39 in favor and 36 against. This procedural defeat blocks the legislation from moving into formal Senate debate under the current vote.
The crypto market responded with losses across several major digital assets. Bitcoin traded at $75,942.93, down 3.7% over 24 hours and 3.2% during the week. Ethereum fell to $2,403.95 after a 5.2% daily drop and 3.5% weekly loss.
Although the motion did not represent the final passage of the CLARITY Act, it needed support from at least a dozen Democrats to succeed. Crypto market analyst Ted Pillows predicted that failure would push the legislative process into 2027. Regulators have indicated they will publish rules under their existing authority through the SEC and CFTC.
Grayscale responded to the failed procedural vote by stating regulators continue working on digital asset rules, while the company continues engaging policymakers and regulators on U.S. crypto regulation.
