CLARITY Act Hits Roadblock in Senate Amid Bipartisan Deadlock
The CLARITY Act, aimed at establishing rules for the digital asset market, has hit a roadblock in the Senate. Despite months of negotiations and amendments, the bill still lacks the required 60 votes to pass.
A procedural vote switch by Republican Senator Thom Tillis allowed him to file a motion to reconsider, keeping alive the possibility of revisiting the cloture vote at any point this session.
However, time is running out as the Senate is scheduled to leave for recess on October 2 and the House has already recessed for the election period. Congressman Shri Thanedar says this presents a 'major barrier' to reaching an agreement.
The bill's fate now hinges on finding common ground between Democrats and Republicans, with some calling for a more bipartisan drafting process. Ryan Eagan of the Crypto Council for Innovation suggests that Senator Tillis's motion could still provide an opportunity to revisit the bill.
