CLARITY Act in Limbo as Senate Awaits September Vote
The fate of the CLARITY Act in the US Senate remains uncertain as it awaits a possible September vote. The bill, which aims to provide comprehensive regulation for cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, has been stalled due to opposition from several senators.
A merged text exceeding 600 pages was presented on July 22, but the Senate adjourned without voting on August 7. The bill's passage requires at least 60 votes, and with only 53 Republican seats, it is expected that Democrats will be needed to pass the legislation. Prediction markets have placed 2026 passage odds around 16% to 20%, indicating a slim chance of success.
Failure of the CLARITY Act could put pressure on Bitcoin prices by 10% to 25% and altcoins by 15% to 30%, according to some predictions. However, it's worth noting that existing Bitcoin ETFs would not be automatically canceled if the bill fails.
