CLARITY Act on Life Support: Senate Faces Sudden Deadline
The fate of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY Act) hangs in the balance as the Senate approaches its summer recess. With only a few days left before lawmakers head back to their home states, supporters of the bill are racing against time to get it passed.
According to the Senate's procedural rules, if an ordinary cloture motion is filed on Wednesday, August 5, the Senate could hold a vote on the following Friday, August 7. However, invoking cloture requires a 60-vote margin, which Republicans may struggle to achieve with their current 53 seats.
Senator Elizabeth Warren has expressed strong opposition to the bill, stating that its ethics language does not go far enough to address President Donald Trump's crypto stake. Meanwhile, Senator Cynthia Lummis has proposed a compromise combining the work of the Banking and Agriculture Committees.
