CLARITY Act Pushed Back Until September Amid Senate Disagreements
The CLARITY Act has hit another roadblock in its journey through the US Senate. The landmark crypto bill, which aims to regulate the industry and prevent potential conflicts of interest for government officials, was expected to be voted on before lawmakers left Washington for a month-long recess. However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune confirmed that there will be no vote on the CLARITY Act in August, pushing the vote back until September.
The delay has been attributed to ongoing disagreements between Democrats and Republicans over the bill's content. Democrats are seeking stronger safeguards to prevent President Donald Trump from benefiting financially from crypto while serving in office, while some Republicans have expressed concerns about the impact on community banks.
Despite the setback, Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan has downplayed the significance of missing the August vote, stating that institutional investors remain uncertain due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the bill. However, he believes a clearer outlook may boost confidence and support a stronger crypto rally later this year.
