Clarity Act Ready for Senate Vote, Says Coinbase CEO Armstrong
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong believes that the Clarity Act is ready for a Senate vote and is optimistic about its chances of passing. The legislation, which aims to provide regulatory clarity in the United States, has received input from hundreds of pages worth of data from both sides of the aisle.
Armstrong emphasized the bipartisan work that went into crafting the bill, saying it's an effort to establish a clear regulatory framework that would protect American consumers while allowing the U.S. to remain competitive in blockchain and digital asset development. He also noted that major groups such as law enforcement agencies, many banks, and crypto companies are now behind the Clarity Act.
The Coinbase CEO stated that his company had previously raised concerns about the legislation but has since identified issues with earlier versions of the bill that have been resolved. Armstrong expressed confidence in the bill's ability to secure a 'yes' vote on September 15, when senators are expected to vote on whether to advance the legislation.
However, some experts caution that September 15 may not necessarily be the final vote on the Clarity Act, as the Senate is expected to consider advancing H.R. 3633, which could still face debate, amendments, and possible House action after passing.
