CLARITY Act Stakes Rise as Scaramucci Warns of Disaster Without Senate Vote

Share

The CLARITY Act faces a critical test in the US Senate as it approaches its August recess deadline. With just 14 days remaining, proponents of the bill are warning that failure to advance the legislation could lead to a 'brutal death' for the current legislative push.

Anthony Scaramucci, founder of SkyBridge Capital, believes that the bill's chances of passing are tied to its ability to reach the Senate floor. If it does, he predicts a successful vote: 'If it gets to the floor, it's gonna pass.'

The holdup is largely procedural and stems from an ethics dispute between lawmakers and the White House. Democrats initially demanded stronger ethics provisions with enforcement mechanisms that would have meaningful consequences. However, lawmakers are now seeking additional powers for state attorneys general to enforce federal ethics rules.

This demand has created a complicated legal issue, according to Scaramucci: 'You can't have the state just prosecuting the crypto and not all the other ethical potential violations in the federal code.'
