CLARITY Act Stalls Ahead of Recess, Crypto Industry Fears Delay
The CLARITY Act faces a tight deadline as the Senate has only five days left before its August recess. The bill, which aims to provide clear federal rules for the digital asset industry, still lacks scheduling on the Senate's floor debate calendar.
Lawmakers need seven Democratic votes to move the bill forward, but so far, they have not secured the necessary support. In July, a group of seven Democratic senators expressed concerns over the draft's ethics provisions, calling for tougher rules on consumer protection and illicit finance.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, one of the key voices in the Democrat faction, has been critical of the bill's current form, stating that it 'falls short' of their expectations. In response, Senator Cynthia Lummis introduced an updated proposal combining work from the Senate Banking and Agriculture Committees.
