CLARITY Act Stalls in Senate Amid Cryptocurrency Uncertainty
The CLARITY Act has hit a roadblock in the U.S. Senate after failing to advance on Tuesday, causing uncertainty in the cryptocurrency market and prompting questions about XRP's reaction.
XRP fell under significant selling pressure despite its existing legal history, with pro-Ripple attorney Bill Morgan suggesting that the token may have had more to gain from the legislation than previously thought.
Morgan believes that XRP's existing legal position does not completely insulate it from uncertainty affecting the wider market. He argues that institutions considering XRP-related products and services need confidence in the regulatory environment surrounding exchanges, intermediaries, and other digital assets.
Former CFTC Chairman Christopher Giancarlo also weighed in on the issue, stating that the setback will not stop financial innovation in the United States. He noted that SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and CFTC Chairman Michael Selig remain committed to establishing frameworks for financial innovation and market modernization under U.S. law.
The CLARITY Act is not necessarily dead yet, but time is running out as lawmakers have limited time to resolve disagreements and secure the votes needed to move the bill forward before the November midterm elections.
