CLARITY Act Vote Looms: Crypto Markets Experience Weekend Price Dip
Crypto markets experienced a sharp decline in value on Saturday and Sunday as traders anticipated a crucial vote on the CLARITY Act, which will take place on Tuesday. Bitcoin fell by around 0.8% from $77,450 to a low of $76,827 before recovering towards $76,994. Ether dropped by approximately 1.3% from $2,516.58 to $2,484.54, but also stabilized above its lowest point.
The weekend's price movement is consistent with a 'low liquidity weekend dump,' according to crypto trader Ash Crypto. Liquidity often weakens during weekends as institutional participation falls and traditional financial markets remain closed. Research has shown that lower market-wide cryptocurrency liquidity on weekends can lead to larger short-term price movements due to smaller orders.
The Senate will vote on the CLARITY Act, which requires 60 votes to advance, at 2:15 p.m. ET on September 15. The bill aims to provide clarity on digital asset markets and would give state attorneys general an enforcement role in regulating crypto-related financial interests. A successful cloture vote would keep the legislation moving and reduce uncertainty surrounding U.S. crypto market-structure regulation.
