CLARITY Act's Failure Boosts Coinbase Amid Increased Competition

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong says that the CLARITY Act's failure could be good for Coinbase in the short term. The bill, which aimed to clarify the regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies and stablecoins, would have increased competition for the company.

Armstrong stated that if the CLARITY Act had passed, every major financial services firm would have started incorporating crypto, leading to 'tons more competition' for Coinbase.

The SEC's regulations, on the other hand, are seen as more permissive and beneficial for the company. The agency granted a five-year exemption for tokenized stock trading venues and awarded a similar exemption to Coinbase Global (COIN).

Banks were also opposed to the CLARITY Act, with some major banks fighting against stablecoin payouts. Armstrong stated that these banks are now in a worse position after the bill's failure.
