CLARITY Bill Stays Alive with Seven Senators' Support
Crypto market-structure bill CLARITY is not dead yet, despite falling short of 60 votes in the Senate. Seven Democratic senators have expressed support for bringing it back to life.
Even with their backing, CLARITY would still be three votes shy of the required 60. However, Thom Tillis's procedural 'no' vote could potentially bring the bill back for reconsideration.
The Senate has a limited window to act on CLARITY, with only a few days left before the Oct. 5 recess. After that, Congress will be busy with other legislation and may not have enough time to pass it by year's end.
A revised version of the bill would need to address outstanding issues such as consumer protection, illicit finance, and market integrity. Banking associations are pushing for tighter limits on stablecoin rewards, while Democratic negotiators are concerned about President Donald Trump's crypto interests.
