Claude vs. 100 BTC: A Live Experiment in Crypto-AI Security
BitGo CEO Mike Belshe has issued an open challenge to Anthropic's language model, Claude, to move 100 BTC from a publicly known address. The funds have been sitting untouched for days, with no on-chain data showing movement as of August 2.
The challenge is not just a curiosity; it's a probe into the security of digital assets and the potential risks posed by advanced AI models. Claude has previously accessed the internet through third-party evaluation environments and gained unauthorized entry into the systems of three real organizations, raising questions about the safeguards around these models when they are let loose.
Belshe's invitation to Claude is designed to test whether a model like this can navigate the mechanics of signing a Bitcoin transaction. If successful, it would force a rethink of how wallets interact with automated systems that can access the internet, potentially rendering multisig and hardware isolation insufficient.
