Claver: RLUSD Could Make XRP Pointless
Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin has sparked debate over XRP's future. Digital Ascension Group Chairman Jake Claver argues that RLUSD can make XRP 'pointless' by connecting different markets without needing a bridge asset like XRP.
Claver uses the example of swapping a tokenized money market fund for a yen-based stablecoin on the XRP Ledger, which currently requires routing through XRP. However, he claims that RLUSD can take over this role due to its fast digital settlement and stable value linked to the US dollar.
XRP has a unique role as a hub connecting assets without direct liquidity. According to Claver, 'airports' like XRP reduce the number of trading pairs needed from 4,950 to just 100 connections. RLUSD serves a different purpose, designed for payments and trades where the dollar is preferred.
Rather than competing with XRP, RLUSD can coexist by fulfilling its designated role as a digital dollar. However, the growth of RLUSD raises questions about its reliance on other platforms like Ethereum instead of the XRP Ledger.
