Clayton Joins Intelligence Community as Director of National Intelligence

Former US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Jay Clayton has been sworn in as Director of National Intelligence, marking a significant transition from financial regulation to national security.

Clayton's appointment comes after bipartisan Senate confirmation, reflecting his reputation as a measured and experienced attorney. As SEC Chair, he oversaw major regulatory actions, including the agency's lawsuit against Ripple Labs in December 2020, alleging unregistered securities offerings related to XRP sales.

Now leading the US intelligence community, Clayton will coordinate the activities of 18 agencies, including the CIA and NSA. His legal and financial background is expected to inform his approach to national security, particularly in areas like economic espionage and cybersecurity.
