CME Group's BCH and UNI Futures Listings Spark Institutional Hype
The CME Group announced plans to list Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Uniswap (UNI) futures on October 19, pending regulatory review. This news sent BCH prices soaring by 30% in just a few hours, while UNI jumped 11%. The new contracts will allow institutional investors to hedge their exposure in both tokens, according to Giovanni Vicioso, CME Group's global head of cryptocurrency products.
CME's existing crypto book is substantial, with daily volumes averaging 279,800 contracts worth $8.3 billion in notional value during the first half of this year. The exchange has already seen significant growth from its recent listings, including Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche, and Sui futures.
The listing announcement is often the catalyst for large-scale institutional investment, as it provides a compliant way for pension funds, hedge funds, and asset managers to participate in crypto markets. The Uniswap pick is particularly noteworthy, as UNI is a governance token for a decentralized exchange that has been subject to regulatory scrutiny.
