Coastal Financial Stocks Soar Amidst Valley National Bancorp's Bluevine Acquisition
Coastal Financial (CCB.O) shares saw a significant turnaround on Monday after experiencing selling pressure earlier in the day. The stock rose 4.9% to $39.37, with investors seemingly reacting positively to recent market developments. One of these events was Valley National Bancorp's (VLY.O) announcement that it would acquire its fintech partner Bluevine for approximately $340 million. However, this news also caused VLY's shares to plummet 16%. Upon completion of the deal, expected in early 2027, Bluevine's current partnership with Coastal Financial will come to an end.
Raymond James analyst Joseph Yanchunis commented on the situation, stating that the announcement is a 'minor negative' for Coastal Financial. This is because it confirms that the established and fast-growing partnership between CCBX (Coastal's fintech arm) and Bluevine will eventually shift to Valley after the acquisition closes.
Despite this development, analysts remain optimistic about Coastal Financial's prospects. Stephens analyst Andrew Terrell believes that the impact of VLY acquiring Bluevine is not as significant as Monday's market movement suggests. Notably, all four brokerages covering the stock have given it a 'buy' or higher rating, with a median target price of $51.50.
