Coinbase Accused of Hiding $1 Billion in Customer Losses

Share

Coinbase is facing allegations of covering up massive hacks and losing over $1 billion in customer funds. Ari Paul, founder of BlockTower Capital, claims that his firm lost $25 million to Coinbase several years ago, which he initially thought was due to the exchange simply 'losing' the funds. However, further investigation led him to believe that Coinbase had been involved in a series of hacks and refused to return the money.

Paul's allegations are part of a larger unresolved dispute tied to multiple legal proceedings. He claims that his firm is not alone, as at least a dozen other companies were affected by similar incidents, resulting in over $1 billion in losses covered up by Coinbase.

Coinbase responded to Paul's claim, saying it had contacted him via direct message to investigate the matter. The exchange has faced several security incidents in the past, including a breach that exposed data of at least 69,400 users and a recent support-impersonation scheme targeting customers.
