Coinbase and MSTR Plunge Amid Regulatory Uncertainty and FOMC Looming
The US stock market saw a sharp decline on the 15th, with Bitcoin plummeting more than 2%. This led to widespread selling in crypto-related stocks, including Coinbase, which dropped over 10% from the previous day.
According to reports, the procedural vote on the Digital Asset Market Structure Bill in the US Senate ended in a 49-50 split, failing to meet the required 60 votes to proceed to deliberation. The bill would have granted the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) primary oversight authority over digital assets.
Coinbase's performance is highly sensitive to trading activity and regulatory trends. However, the company has been diversifying its revenue sources, with non-Bitcoin spot transactions accounting for 88% of net revenue in the April-June quarter.
On the other hand, Strategy (MSTR.US) has higher sensitivity to Bitcoin price movements, holding 843,775 BTC worth $17.06 billion as of July 26. A decline in crypto assets not only reduces the value of held assets but may also impact future fundraising efforts.
