Coinbase Australia Unlocks Crypto Support for Self-Managed Super Funds

Share

Coinbase Australia has rolled out dedicated support for self-managed super funds (SMSFs), allowing trustees to hold cryptocurrencies within their retirement portfolios. This move follows Coinbase's recent acquisition of an Australian Financial Services License, which enables the exchange to offer crypto and equity perpetuals to local investors.

The new feature includes downloadable transaction data aligned with Australian accounting standards and a streamlined entity verification process tailored for SMSFs. According to APAC Managing Director John O'Loghlen, this expansion marks a significant growth area in Australia due to growing regulatory clarity and institutional adoption of digital assets.

Australia has over 664,000 active SMSFs, holding approximately AU$1.06 trillion ($758.2 billion) in assets as of the end of 2025, according to official data from the Australian Taxation Office. This development follows OKX's similar launch of SMSF support last year.
