Coinbase Axes Six Trading Pairs Amid Liquidity Concerns

Coinbase has announced that it will suspend trading for six spot pairs on August 6. The affected pairs include LSETH-ETH, MINA-EUR, GRT-GBP, MASK-GBP, CHZ-USDT, and CRO-USDT.

These pairs had already been placed in limit-only mode, which restricts trading to limit orders only. This is a typical graduated step before full suspension, giving market participants time to exit positions and adjust strategies.

The tokens involved belong to projects that maintain steady developer activity, such as The Graph, Mina Protocol, and Mask Network. However, despite this base-level protocol activity, the euro and pound sterling volumes for many altcoins remain thin, making it economically unjustifiable for exchanges to maintain infrastructure.

Coinbase operates on razor-thin margins for many spot pairs, and when volume doesn't justify the cost, removal is logical. The exchange has publicly stated that it regularly reviews its listings and streamlines operations to focus on liquid markets that minimize regulatory friction.
