Coinbase Blocks Most Canadians from Regulated Crypto Futures Trading

Coinbase has launched regulated crypto futures trading in Canada, but access is limited to those worth at least $5 million in net financial assets.

The platform, which went live on September 2, 2026, through Coinbase Financial Markets, its U.S.-registered futures arm, offers 23 perpetual and dated futures contracts tied to assets such as Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana, as well as five commodity futures covering gold, silver, and oil.

Coinbase is charging Canadian clients 0.02% per trade plus $0.11 per contract for a limited time, pricing that echoes what it already charges U.S. traders on the same products.

The regulatory route Coinbase chose to launch in Canada explains the eligibility wall, as these exemptions are narrower than a broad retail launch and usually come with wealth or sophistication tests.
