Coinbase and other major Bitcoin players are taking proactive steps to prepare for potential threats from quantum computing. CEO Brian Armstrong emphasizes that while quantum computers aren't an immediate threat, preparation should begin now.

Coinbase has established an Independent Advisory Board on Quantum Computing and Blockchain to assess realistic risks and recommend practical solutions.

The board concluded that existing cryptographic standards will eventually need to be replaced, with the migration process being the biggest challenge due to coordination required across millions of users and decentralized networks.

Coinbase is developing PQ-CoreKMS, a post-quantum version of its key management platform. The exchange also joined forces with other leading financial and crypto firms to launch the Bitcoin Security Consortium.
