Coinbase Bolsters Derivatives Trading Infrastructure with High-Performance Engine
Coinbase is upgrading its derivatives infrastructure to support expanding global business, with a new high-performance matching engine on Deribit capable of processing over 100,000 orders per second.
The upgrade aims to improve execution speed and scalability for institutional traders, bringing Deribit onto the same core execution infrastructure as Coinbase International Exchange.
Coinbase said the dedicated infrastructure is designed to handle high volumes and low-latency requirements of institutional derivatives markets. The new engine introduces a built-in speed bump on selected instruments, briefly delaying aggressive orders to give liquidity providers more time to adjust their quotes during periods of rapid market movement.
The mechanism is expected to encourage market makers to quote tighter spreads and maintain larger resting orders over time, potentially improving liquidity for institutional traders. Coinbase plans to move perpetual futures onto the new engine later this year, supporting additional products and broadening global derivatives offerings.
