Coinbase Bolsters Stablecoin Payments with Expanded Citi Partnership

Coinbase Global's partnership with Citigroup has grown stronger with the expansion of their collaboration on stablecoin payments. The agreement will allow Citi's institutional clients to accept stablecoin payments through Spring by Citi, which uses Coinbase as its underlying digital-asset rails and converts stablecoins into fiat for settlement.

Coinbase provides the necessary infrastructure for digital-asset and stablecoin transactions, while Citigroup offers regulated banking capabilities across 180 countries. This partnership strengthens Coinbase's position at the intersection of traditional finance and blockchain-based payments.

Stablecoins like USDC play a crucial role in this collaboration, with Circle Internet Group being one of its issuers. BlackRock also manages USDC reserves through its partnership with Circle, gaining direct exposure to stablecoin infrastructure.
