Coinbase Brings IPO Access to US Retail Traders
Coinbase is expanding access to primary financial markets by allowing US retail traders to participate in initial public offerings (IPOs). The digital assets platform announced that eligible customers can request shares at the offer price before open-market trading begins, starting with Oura's IPO this week.
The feature is part of Coinbase's goal to grow the 'Everything Exchange,' giving US customers early exposure to high-interest companies. Traders can navigate to the new IPOs page within the Coinbase app and select an active deal page after funding their account to cover the cost of requested shares.
Once the order book closes, available shares will be allocated using an established methodology and booked directly into users' accounts at the IPO price. The allocation algorithm prioritizes investors who believe in what they're purchasing for the long haul.
