Coinbase Brings IPO Allocations to US Retail Traders
Coinbase has expanded its services to US retail traders by offering access to initial public offerings (IPOs). The new feature allows eligible customers to request shares at the offer price before open-market trading starts.
Beginning with Oura's IPO this week, customers can navigate to the IPOs page inside the Coinbase app and select an active deal page. They must fund their account to cover the cost of the requested shares and submit a 'Conditional Offer to Buy' once the expected price range becomes public.
The allocation algorithm prioritizes investors who believe in what they're purchasing for the long haul, with selling IPO shares within the first 30 days potentially resulting in being barred from IPO participation for the following 60 days.
